8D Problem Solving

The BEC is offering a one-day session in 8D Problem Solving. This course covers the 8 disciplines of problem solving including root cause analysis and documentation. Participants will gain an understanding of each of the eight disciplines as well as the ability to assess if a problem warrants an 8D approach. This session also utilizes the tools presented in the Problem Solving Tools session and focuses on the team approach to solving problems.

• Differentiating between special cause and common cause conditions
• The eight disciplines
• Implementing emergency response actions on critical problems
• Determining root cause based on observed effects
• Developing an action plan
• Using creativity in the problem solving process

• Understand when to apply the 8D process
• Understand the purpose for each of the 8 disciplines
• Use assessing questions in each of the 8 disciplines to ensure a common understanding and focus of the team members
• Systematically evaluate possible solutions
• Avoid problems when implementing an improvement plan
• Prerequisite: Participants should take Problem Solving Tools prior to 8D Problem Solving
