The BEC's is offering a half-day session in Autonomation. Autonomation, or automation with a human touch, explores how to increase the capacity of manual operations by introducing a minimum amount of automated equipment. Using takt time as the driver for this activity, autonomation incorporates the best traits of both people and machines without the high cost of fully automated transfer lines. The concept of Error Proofing and its impact on the autonomated line is also discussed.

Autonomation course content includes:

  • Defining the purpose and goals of Autonomation
  • The seven steps to an Autonomated line
  • The 10 rules for Autonomation
  • The role of Error Proofing in Autonomation
  • Applying Autonomation to a simulated process

Upon completion of the BEC's Autonomation, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what Autonomation is and how it can be applied to improving process capacity and product quality while reducing product costs.
  • Understand how Error Proofing applies to the Autonomation process
  • Apply the Autonomation process to a simulated factory process (applying autonomation to the box game simulation)
