The BEC is offering a ½ day session on Error Proofing. This session addresses the need to prevent defects from occurring as a strategy to achieve customer satisfaction. This session also provides the participant with a complete understanding of what error proofing is, how it is used as an improvement strategy and how to analyze a problem for error proofing potential. Participants will understand how an error proofing solution is evaluated to ensure the problem it is addressing will not return.

Prerequisite: Problem Solving Tools and Overview of Lean must be taken prior to attending Error Proofing.

Error Proofing content includes:

  • How to evaluate processes for error proofing potential
  • Considerations for error proofing
  • Examples of common error proofing devices
  • Examples of error proofing in a factory environment
  • Evaluating "live" defects (provided by the host facility) for error proofing

Upon completion of the BEC’s Error Proofing, you will be able to:

  • Describe the advantages of error prevention
  • Understand the evolution of the error proofing philosophy
  • Describe the difference between mistakes and defects
  • Evaluate the potential for error proofing specific problems
  • Understand the impact of failing to error proof on customer satisfaction
