The BEC is offering a one-day session in Lean Office. This course addresses the need for companies to develop both Lean Offices and Lean Manufacturing areas before they can become a world-class enterprise and compete globally. Lean Office provides the participant with an introduction of how the Lean tools can be applied as successfully to the office as they have been to the shop floor. Individuals with administrative functions are encouraged to attend.

Lean Office course content includes:

  • Defining the "product" that the office produces and the customer is willing to pay for
  • Tools for identifying office waste
  • Evaluating the office environment for activities that do not add-value to the office product
  • Examples of common office activities which are waste
  • Examples of common solutions to waste in the office
  • An office simulation game which compares the performance of a typical departmentalized office area versus the Lean cellular office

Upon completion of the BEC's Lean Office, you will be able to:

  • Identify office activities that the customer is not willing to pay for (waste)
  • Redesign your work area to eliminate waste
  • Understand why departmentalized office functions are less efficient than grouping functions together into an Office Cellular arrangement
  • Participate in making the office area part of your company's global competitive advantage
  • Apply lean tools in the office environment
