The BEC is offering a one-day session in Process Cells. This session compares traditional processing layouts with cells and defines how cells accelerate your organization’s waste reduction goals. Participants will get exposure to the tools, thought processes and support systems required to design and implement one-piece flow (including calculating takt time and standardizing work practices). Product selection and grouping for your first work cell is also discussed. Finally, cell layout techniques are included to ensure layout viability in the proposed cell site.

Pre-requisite: Overview of Lean must be taken prior to attending Process Cells.

Process Cells content includes:

  • What a cell is
  • Benefits of cells
  • Applying takt time and standardized work in the cell
  • Processing cell prerequisites
  • Implementing cells

Upon completion participants will be able to:

  • Determine product families that qualify for Process Cell layout
  • Determine production capacity by process
  • Analyze cell loading based on customer requirements
  • Design an effective cell
  • Calculate takt time and balance work based on customer requirements
  • Complete a Standard Work Sequence Sheet
