All businesses are a collection of processes aimed at satisfying their customers. Any business or manufacturing process that is done repetitively and has a customer (either internal or external) can be a source of waste and dissatisfaction. Every process can be improved by using Lean or Six Sigma. The combination of both, Lean Six Sigma, delivers even more powerful results.
MSOE's Business Excellence Consortium is offering a ten-day course in which you will learn and apply a fully integrated approach using Lean and Six Sigma techniques to eliminate waste and defects and reduce variation in your processes. The instructors have successfully taught teams across the world to use the Lean Six Sigma method and tools to improve process flow and customer satisfaction, They will teach you the principles and mentor you on an improvement project that you will select for your company. Successful completion of the Lean Six Sigma project is a key part of the course.
What will be covered:

- Recognize, map, and analyze value streams in your processes
- Identify the sources of waste and variation in a value stream and create a future state map to optimize Lean Six Sigma metrics
- Understand and use each Lean Six Sigma tool including 5S, visual management, set-up reduction, mistake-proofing, kanban , total productive maintenance (TPM), standard work, as well as graphical analysis, measurement system analysis, capability analysis, regression, design of experiments (DoE), and statisical process control (SPC)
- Select the correct Lean Six Sigma tool for eliminating waste and defects and reducing process variations
- Plan and execute a kaizen event focused on eliminating waste and defects
Course schedule:
The schedule includes three sessions, approximately four weeks apart.
Session 1 (four days)
Value stream mapping, Lean Six Sigma metrics, how to analyze a value stream, and how to use data to prioritize opportunities for improvement. Tools include value stream mapping, graphical analysis, and measurement system analysis.
Session 2 (four days)
Selecting the correct tool for improvement, using the Lean Six Sigma tools, and planning and executing a kaizen event.Tools include 5S, visual management, mistake-proofing, set-up reduction, continuous flow, cells, pull systems, TPM, standard work, capability analysis, regression, and DoE.
Session 3 (two days)
This session focuses on sustaining results from your improvement project making sure the benefits continue forever. Tools include Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and SPC.
