The BEC is offering a one-day session in Understanding and Implementing ISO 14001:2004. This session addresses the intent of ISO 14001:2004 requirements. Concentration is on identifying environmental aspects and reducing the impact of those aspects on the environment. This session is for anyone involved in the documentation and/or audit processes including auditors, team leaders, EMS specialists and implementers. Participants gain a general understanding of the clauses of ISO 14001:2004, particularly those clauses most frequently misinterpreted.

Content:

  • Clause by clause discussion of the standard
  • Developing an "integrated" quality manual
  • Documentation review, examples and techniques
  • Identifying "aspects" to be addressed
  • Key ISO 14001:2004 procedures
  • Minimizing wasted effort
  • Pluses and minuses of integrating your ISO 14001:2004 management system with ISO and ISO/TS

Upon completion, you will be able to:

  • Avoid unnecessary and inefficient quality system updates
  • Ensure implementation is effective and practical
  • Improve operational costs by reducing waste of water, electricity, heat, lights, dunnage, and so on.
  • Plan, organize and support implementation efforts
  • Recognize pitfalls and avoid them before they happen
  • Review and evaluate documentation for effectiveness and compliance to the standard
  • Use common sense interpretations of the intent of the ISO 14001:2004 clauses
