Business Excellence ConsortiumOutreach to Industry on Climate ChangeYour opportunity to provide crucial input for the international climate change negotiations
The United States Commerce Department is hosting an event to solicit industry feedback on proposed global climate change initiatives. The U.S. government is engaged in the United Nations climate change discussions, which will lead to the decisive negotiating session in Copenhagen this coming December. Critical topics in the negotiating process include establishing long-term goals for emissions reductions, identifying the technologies and practices needed to achieve substantial reductions, and building a financial framework to support these efforts. The final agreement reached in this process will have far-ranging implications for energy usage, environmental protection, and economic growth. At this event, participants will learn from government officials the status of current negotiations, hear about the international financial framework for climate change, and understand key issues for U.S. industry as well as commercial opportunities. Most importantly, participants will have the chance to offer feedback directly to the U.S. negotiating team. If intellectual property rights, research and development, technology sales, carbon financing, energy efficiency, or environmental regulation are important to your business, it's critical that you are part of this process. Companies in the energy, chemicals, forestry and paper, metals, and other manufacturing and services sectors are encouraged to attend and provide their input into this process. Various government agencies will discuss the many issues involved with climate change negotiations.
