Mistake Proofing

The BEC is offering a one-day session in Mistake-Proofing. Participants become familiar with effective methods of applying mistake proofing as a proactive method of improving and maintaining processes. Mistake proofing is often referred to as Poka Yoke, error proofing and failsafing. In addition to typical examples, the mistake proofing process will be applied to actual examples provided by the participants who bring in parts, digital photos & drawings to the session.

• Mistake-proofing devices, techniques and their respective functions
• Mistake-proofing success stories
• Red flag conditions and examples to detect possible errors
• Standard inspection vs. SPC

Upon completion, you will be able to:

• Apply mistake-proofing methodology to FMEAs, corrective actions, product design, process design, and problem solving
• Demonstrate the benefits of mistake-proofing as a reactive and more importantly a proactive tool
• Identify key mistake-proofing devices
• Identify conditions that provoke errors
• Differentiate between defects and errors as causes of nonconforming product
• Identify proven mistake-proofing techniques that can be applied to eliminate any defect and error causing conditions
• Mistake-proof processes and work environments to ensure errors will no longer generate defects
• Recognize the elements of inspection at the source and understand its role in defect prevention
