This ten-day Black Belt program is designed to provide technical professionals with application-oriented Six Sigma training. Participants will master this powerful methodology and learn how to apply Six Sigma in their current environment. Many organizations have achieved amazing results on their bottom line through the application of Six Sigma.

Examples:

  • Manufacturing: Reduced customer DOAs 6% to 1%; increased manufacturing yield by 40%; reduced warranty costs.
  • Engineering: Product development 4 times performance increase; 10 times reliability improvements.

You will learn Six Sigma from the best. Our facilitators are GE trained Master Black Belts. Also, all course examples are for a technical audience. Participants will understand and apply the math behind the approach.

Course content includes:

  • Instruction and application of the DMAIC Six Sigma Methodology: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control
  • Instruction and application of the Design for Six Sigma (DFSS): Define, Identify, Design, Optimize, Verify and Monitor No other program covers both!
  • All course examples demonstrate the application of the Six Sigma methodology to technical problems
  • Project work: Participants apply the Six Sigma methodology to a current project and receive project mentoring throughout the course
  • Participants receive instruction and coaching in the use of Minitab software
  • Accessibility to on-going mentoring to help participants continue Six Sigma implementation.

With Six Sigma Black Belt certification, you will be able to:

  • Lead multiple projects to successful completion using Six Sigma methodology
  • Apply the systematic steps of world-class, problem-solving methodology
  • Drive awareness of the methodology and tools to team members and the broader organization
  • Mentor Green Belts and Yellow Belts
Participants who successfully complete our Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate program are awarded six academic credits that may be used to satisfy Operations Management concentration electives in MSOE's Bachelor of Science in Management, Bachelor of Science in Business or Bachelor of Science in International Business programs.

Participants completing our Six Sigma Black Belt Certification are eligible for six MSOE graduate credits: three graduate credits for EM-7461 Six Sigma Black Belt Concepts by passing the certification exam and three graduate credits for EM-7462 Six Sigma Black Belt Project for successfully completing a project. Certification vs. Certificate

Topics/Activities:
Define (1 Day)
This session lays the foundation for a successful project. It ensures that the problem statement is well thought out. You will:
  • define your project goals and requirements for success
  • identify the requirements for success in regard to your customers and stakeholders
  • break down the project into manageable pieces / projects
  • allocate the goals to the projects
  • determine the business and customer benefits (what is the return on investment?)
  • collect, evaluate and utilize existing data to formulate your hypothesis
Measure/Identify (2 days)
This session is the one key to getting a good start. You will:
  • understand your customer needs and CTQs
  • make sure your spec limits are set such that your customer will be satisfied
  • make sure that your measurement system satisfies the needs of your project
Analyze/Design (3 days)
During this session, you will quantify the problem and devise a strategy for solving the problem. Also, you will:
  • understand process capability for your CTQ
  • define the gap between "where you are" and "where you need to be" in order to satisfy your customers
  • work with your team to brainstorm possible Xs to close the gap
Improve/Optimize (3 days)
This session is the key to fixing the problem. You will:
  • review the "probable Xs" identified in the Analyze/Design session
  • develop a strategy (action work out, regression, DoE or Simulation) and determine the critical Xs
  • utilize the relationships between the Ys and Xs to determine the optimal setting for the Xs
  • confirm the results
Control/Verify/Monitor (1 day)
This session is the key to solving your problem forever. You will:
  • understand the Xs and tolerances on the Xs
  • develop mistake proofing for all Xs and Ys possible
  • develop a long term control plan
  • put data collection and data monitoring plans in place
10 days total
*To earn full Black Belt Certification, participants must demonstrate tools/methodology competency through passing an exam and successfully close two Black Belt projects using both the DMAIC and DFSS methodology.

The BEC Black Belt program, developed and taught by GE trained Master Black Belts, is a focused, 10-day program (this rivals the current more popular programs that take from four-to-six weeks). Participants will be educated in both the DMAIC and the DFSS methodology at a fraction of the cost charged by the current popular programs.
